Seattle Weather: Thursday, November 20, 2008

Highs: 48-58
Rain
Lows: 36-44
Light Showers

A Little Rain To End The Work Week

Updated 1PM

A cold front moved through early this afternoon leaving behind showers and cooler temperatures. Snow levels in the mountains should drop down to 3,000 feet by later today for some snow at all of the highway passes. 2”-6” of snow could accumulate by Friday morning with the greater amounts above 3,500 feet.

Friday should start dry, but another front will move in on Friday for increasingly steady rain again and gusty winds in the afternoon. Snow will increase in the mountains again though snow levels may rise to 4,000 feet later on Friday afternoon.

The cold front will move through on Friday night with showers and decreasing winds. Snow levels will drop back down to 2,500 feet Friday night and Saturday for a few more inches of snow in the passes.

High pressure will begin building along the coast on Saturday ending the showers by later in the day. The high should strengthen and give us partly sunny skies on Sunday and Monday after areas of morning clouds.

A weak front will move through Washington on Tuesday for a few showers but turning back to partly sunny on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day.

Long range models indicate high pressure will remain over us for partly sunny skies after morning fog as we head towards the following weekend.

Northwest forecast from NWCN

Friday

Short Break in the Rain

Mountain Snow Decreasing

Breezy

After a wet, windy and sometimes stormy Thursday, things are setting down into the overnight. Lingering snow will hang on over the passes, tapering off as we head into Friday morning. After some morning fog and patchy black ice east of the Cascades, most of us will enjoy a pleasant enough Friday. Highs will mainly top out in the middle to upper 40s, so it will be a chilly one, but at least we'll be back to dry weather for awhile. Look for increasing clouds west of the Cascades by the afternoon...they will be a sign of rain returning by Friday night.

Friday night will be a wet one for the I-5 corridor, so if you're planning a night out on the town in Seattle, Portland or Medford, prepare for wet weather after dark. This will mean more snow falling over the Cascades passes, so things may get dicey late Friday night over the mountains. As the precipitation hits our eastern cities like Spokane and Pendleton, it may fall as some snow or mixed winter precipitation on Saturday morning.

After the morning rain or mixed rain and snow, things will start to dry out by Saturday afternoon. Sunday will be partly to mostly sunny after areas of thick morning fog, so it's definitely looking like the better half of the weekend for getting outdoors. A new disturbance will renew the threat for rain and snow by Monday afternoon.

Have a great night!
